The Israel Mathematical Union is happy to announce the Annual Students' Talks Day, which will be held this year at Bar-Ilan University on July 7 (the day after the Annual IMU meeting). The main objective of this day is to allow students to gain experience in preparing and presenting a mathematical research talk, as well as to provide exposure to the mathematical work done by Israeli students.  

On the program we shall have a plenary talk by an Israeli mathematician and an invited talk by the 2025 Nessyahu prize laureate.  The main part of the program consists of 20-minute long talks that will be given by students. All students in all undergraduate or graduate programs at Israeli academic institutions are eligible to submit a proposal of no longer than 500 words by means of the Google Forms link on this page by Monday, May 5, at midnight.

The talks which will be presented on the Annual Students' Talks Day will be announced by June 5. See additional details concerning the submission process below. 

At the end of the event up to three awards of 1000 NIS each  will be awarded to the students who delivered the most outstanding talks, chosen by a committee of Israeli mathematicians from various research areas. Criteria for the excellence of a talk are divided between the quality of the result which is presented in the talk and the quality of its presentation, where the quality of presentation evaluates the success in conveying the main ideas (rather than the aesthetics of the slides, for example). 

As a default, the talks should be presented in English. Those who wish to do otherwise may contact the organizer. 

All participants in the event - speakers and listeners alike - will be served a free lunch.  The IMU requires (free) registration to the event, to order the right number of meals. 

Additional information:

1. All students in all math programs, undergraduate and graduate alike, can apply to present a talk on the Annual Israel Mathematical Union Students' Talks Day. 

2.  A student who cannot present her or his proposal properly within the limit of 500 words may contact the organizer and request permission for a longer proposal. 

3. The proposers are invited (but not obliged) to enclose the full version of the paper on which the talk is based or a link to the full version on ArXiv, but there is no promise that the full version will be read by the committee members.

4. Works by the proposer with coauthors may be submitted, if the proposer contributed the main part of the work.

האיגוד הישראלי למתמטיקה מכריז על יום הרצאות סטודנטים של האיגוד הישראלי למתמטיקה שייערך באוניברסיטת בר-אילן ב-7 ביולי 2025, יום לאחר הכנס השנתי של האיגוד. מטרת היום היא לאפשר לסטודנטים להתנסות בהכנת ובהצגת הרצאה על נושא מחקרי, וכן לחשוף את עבודתם של הסטודנטים לציבור המתמטי הישראלי. 

ביום ההרצאות תינתן הרצאה כללית של מתמטיקאי ישראלי לציבור הסטודנטים, וכן יוזמן להרצות זוכה פרס נסיהו על עבודת הדוקטור במתמטיקה לשנת 2025. 

במרכזו של יום ההרצאות הסטודנטים תעמודנה הרצאות באורך 20 דקות על ידי סטודנטים וסטודנטיות. כל סטודנט לתואר ראשון, שני או שלישי בכל מוסד אקדמי בארץ יוכל להגיש הצעה להרצאה דרך הטופס בעמוד הזה, עד יום ב', 5 במאי 2025, בחצות. אורך ההצעה הוא עד 500 מילים. 

מבין כל ההצעות תיבחרנה ההרצאות שתוצגנה ביום ההרצאות לסטודנטים. החלטות הוועדה תפורסמנה עד 5 ביוני. פרטים נוספים למטה. 

בסיומו של יום ההרצאות יוענקו עד שלושה פרסים כספיים בסך 1000 ש״ח כל אחד להרצאות שוועדה של מתמטיקאים ישראלים מתחומים שונים תמצא להרצאות המעולות ביותר. השיקולים להענקת הפרסים ישלבו את איכות התוצאה המוצגת עם איכות ההרצאה עצמה, כאשר איכות ההרצאה נמדדת במידת הצלחת המרצה להסביר את הרעיונות העיקריים (ולאו דווקא יופיה של המצגת, למשל). 
 

ככלל, ההרצאות תוצגנה באנגלית. סטודנטים שמעוניינים בהחרגה מכלל זה, יכולים לפנות למארגן.

כל משתתפי יום ההרצאות יכובדו בארוחת צהריים בקמפוס. ההשתתפות ביום ההרצאות אינה כרוכה בתשלום, אולם אנו מבקשים מכולם להירשם כדי שנוכל להתארגן כראוי לקראת האירוע.

 

פרטים נוספים:

1. זכאים להציע נושא להרצאה ולהשתתף כל התלמידים לכל התארים במתמטיקה בכל המוסדות האקדמיים בישראל. 

2. תלמיד או תלמידה שאינם יכולים להסתפק ב-500 מילים כדי להסביר את נושא הרצאתם רשאים לפנות לפרופסור קלר ולבקש חריגה בהיקף ההצעה.

 

3. מגישי ההצעות מוזמנים (אך לא מחוייבים) לצרף גרסה מלאה של המאמר עליו מבוססת ההצעה או הפניה לגרסה של המאמר ב ArXiv. עם זאת, יובהר שאין התחייבות שחברי הוועדה יעיינו בגרסה המלאה.

 

4. מותרת הגשה שמבוססת על מאמר שנכתב עם שותפים, בתנאי שהמגיש תרם את החלק המרכזי.
